BOKARO: The district road safety committee on Saturday said most of the road accidents in Bokaro are happening on National Highways 28 and 23, and serious measures must be taken to control them.
Deputy commissioner Kuldeep Chaudhary expressed concern about the vehicles being parked randomly along the two National Highways and said accidents also happened because of such haphazard parking.
He then directed police station officers in charge of such areas, representatives of National Highways and the district transport department to jointly mark parking places along the highways and ensure that trucks and other vehicles are parked in the allotted spaces only.
Instructions have also been given to install signage at places like Balidih, Railway Station Chowk, Bari Cooperative and Siwandih etc and put rubber strips in place of speed breakers, replacing damaged blinkers. The DC also directed to close illegal cuts in the middle of the highway medians and ensure regular cleaning of the bushes in the middle and sides of roads.
Chaudhary, who chaired the road safety meeting, pointed out that the data on road accidents were not recorded on the online portal of the health department after February. A doctor has also been made the nodal officer for the purpose but the data has not been entered, the DC said asked the doctor concerned to clarify on the matter.
