Coimbatore: The city police on Saturday formed area committees in Ramanathapuram and Podanur police station jurisdictions to bridge the gap between police and public, and to curb law & order issues with the help of local people.
While eight area committees were formed in Ramanathapuram police station jurisdiction, 11 were formed in Podanur police station jurisdiction.
Addressing a gathering, assistant commissioner of police E Satheesh Kumar said that ex-servicemen, retired police personnel, teachers and social activists are members of the committees. “With the help of committee members, cops should collect details of CCTV cameras in the areas. Beat police officers should conduct thorough survey in the allotted areas.”
WhatsApp groups will be formed for the committees. “Members can post messages about modified bike silencers, youths creating nuisance at night and anti-social activities. They can also post messages about faulty street lights and even drinking water issues. We will try to find solutions,” Kumar said.
Deputy commissioner of police N Silambarasan urged people to strengthen the hands of police.
