GUWAHATI:
Bangladesh Prime Minister
Sheikh Hasina has gifted about 200 kgs of the finest quality of Amrapali mangoes to
Assam chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma.
Bangladesh Assistant High Commissioner in Guwahati, Shah Mohammad Tanvir Monsur, handed over the consignment to the principal secretary to the chief minister, Samir K Sinha, on Friday night. Last year, too, Sarma had received mangoes from Hasina as a goodwill gesture.
“India and Bangladesh have one of the best relationships under the charismatic leaderships of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and her Indian counterpart
Narendra Modi. Chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has a special role in this endeavour. These are one of the finest varieties of mangoes from Bangladesh and our Prime Minister has a special desire to share them with the neighbouring countries,” said Monsur. He added that the mangoes will make the relationship between them sweeter.
Sinha extended his gratitude to the Bangladesh government and hoped that such endeavours would bring the people of the two countries closer. “We really feel very grateful on receiving the gift. It’s a symbolic gesture, which shows the strong connection between the two countries and the people,” said Sinha.
