Kolkata: Security is being increased for Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee after a massive breach of took place at her residence in the wee hours of Sunday after a man entered her house by crossing over a wall.
According to Kalighat police sources, a security officer of Mamata found an unidentified man inside the premises on Sunday morning and handed him over to the police. The man remained inside the premises of the Chief Minister’s residence for the entire night.
“Investigation is being made on how the man managed to enter the Z-category security zone. Investigators are also trying to determine the possible motives behind the breach,” said a police official.
It can be noted that soon after the news spread senior police officials including Commissioner of Police Vineet Goyal visited the residence of Mamata Banerjee.
However, according to preliminary investigation, it is being assumed that either the person is a thief or not mentally stable.
TMC Lok Sabha MP Saugata Roy said that such a breach of security is ‘unexpected’.
“Proper probe will be done as such an incident is extremely shameful. Mamata is the Chief Minister and such a thing is not expected,” said Roy.
Senior CPI (M) leader and politburo member said that only a proper probe can bring out the actual motive of the person.
“Questions arise on how the person could climb up the wall and enter the Chief Minister’s residence, escaping the security personnel and CCTV cameras installed there,” said Chakraborty.
Recently, a double murder took place in the same area which also raised questions on security.
