Mangaluru: A bhoomi puja for the construction of the new Central Market in the heart of the city will be held within a month. Mayor Premanand Shetty said that the new market building, to be constructed on 3.6 acres under PPP mode, through the Mangaluru Smart City Limited (MSCL), will have five floors, and parking lots in the basement.
“The MSCL has prepared a DPR, to construct a new Central Market, at an estimated cost of Rs 114 crore. Mangaluru-based concessionaire Somayaji Estates will be taking up the work. Within a month, we will hold a bhoomi puja, for the construction of the new Central Market. We will finalise the date after a discussion,” Shetty said.
The MSCL has taken up the redevelopment of the Central Market and fish market project on a design, build, finance, operate and transfer (DBFOT) basis, under public-private partnership (PPP) mode. The Mangaluru City Corporation (MCC) has already demolished the 60-year-old Central Market building, to facilitate the construction of a new market complex.
