Pune: 9-month-old child among 3 killed as truck hits two cars and two bikes

Police officers said while the arrested driver has told them that he lost control because of brake failure, the reason behind the accident will be confirmed by officials of the Regional Transport Office after they inspect the vehicle.

The deceased have been identified as Reshma Patel (30) and her nine-month-old son Rihan.

Three persons, including a nine-month-old child, were killed and two more were injured after a truck went on to hit two cars and two bikes near Lavale Phata in Mulshi taluka of Pune district on Sunday evening.

Superintendent of Police for Pune Rural Jurisdiction, Abhinav Deshmukh, said, “Three persons were killed in the accident. We have arrested the driver of the truck.”

The deceased have been identified as Reshma Patel (30) and her nine-month-old son Rihan.

Reshma’s husband, who was riding the bike, has sustained injuries in the accident. The other deceased has been identified as Tanaji Dhamale (30), who was riding the second bike.

“A truck carrying stone tiles went on to hit four vehicles — two cars and two bikes. The accident took place on a downward slope after the truck driver lost control of the vehicle because of suspected brake failure. Three persons, including a child, have been killed in the accident,” said Deputy Superintendent of Police (Haveli Division) Bhausaheb Dhole.
