AHMEDABAD: The state education department has decided to conduct a survey to find out how many children between the ages of 6 and 18 years are not enrolled in schools. The department will carry out this survey in 18,907 villages and eight municipal corporations of the state.
Sources said as the academic term has begun, the department found that there are a number of children in the state who are not yet enrolled or have have not returned to school after dropping out.
Sources said under the state government's Samagra Shiksha campaign, the education department will carry out this survey to bring such children back to schools. After this survey, the department will upload this data on its child tracking system.
The department has instructed all education department officials such as district education officers and district primary education officers to surveys all areas in the state at school, cluster, block and district levels. Officials will have to set up teams for the survey which will include school teaching staff and education department staff from the Samagra Shiksha campaign. The department will be uploading survey forms for these teams, who will have to upload the data on the child tracking system.
Sources said that as the dropout rate is high in primary and higher secondary schools, the department has been asking schools to find out how many children are not enrolled but there was no progress.
