AYODHYA: A 30-year-old man was found murdered in a Hanuman temple in Bhuapur village of Ayodhya on Sunday.
Police said the victim, Pankaj Shukla, was sleeping on the temple premises when his cousin, Gullu Mishra, killed him by slitting his throat with an axe during the wee hours of Sunday.
Police said the accused committed the crime as he was enraged over being slapped by Pankaj following a dispute. The accused has been arrested.
According to cops, Pankaj had dinner on Saturday night and went to a temple near his house to sleep. When he did not return on Sunday morning, his family went to the temple and found him dead.
Within hours after the murder, police claimed to work out the case and arrested the victim’s cousin with whom he had a dispute on Saturday night.
Talking to TOI, Ayodhya SSP Shailesh Pandey said, "The accused is the son of Pankaj’s maternal uncle. They had a tiff in the night when Pankaj slapped Gullu."
"The accused later reached the temple in an inebriated state and killed Pankaj with an axe," the SSP said, adding that the murder weapon has been recovered.
