Gurgaon: A day after filing an FIR against the organisers and participants of a rally for raising abusive slogans targeting a minority community, the Gurgaon police on Saturday summoned four accused in the case. However, none of them joined the investigation.
Taking suo motu cognisance, the police had booked members of right-wing Hindu outfits Bajrang Dal and Vishva Hindu Parishad (VHP) on charges of promoting enmity between Hindu and Muslim communities.
According to the police, notices were served to the four accused under Section 41 A of CrPC. “The accused were asked to join the investigation at 11am on Saturday. However, none of them joined. No arrests have been made as yet. The investigation is ongoing,” said Subash Boken, spokesperson, Gurgaon police.
One of the accused, Kulbushan Bhardwaj, said, “I have received the notice to join the investigation but I have asked for time. I am out of the city. Once I am back, I will meet the cops.”
On Wednesday evening, more than 70 people, several of whom were associated with protests against namaz in public places, marched from Sohna Chowk to Harish Bakery passing via Sadar Bazar. An effigy of ‘jihadi terrorism’ was also burnt.
The rally was organised by VHP and Bajrang Dal against the beheading of Kanhaiya Lal, a tailor at Udaipur earlier this week. The killers – Gaus Mohammad and Mohammad Riyaz Akhtari – targeted Kanhaiya for a social media post supporting former BJP spokesperson Nupur Sharma’s comments on the Prophet.
Cops had filed an FIR under IPC sections 153A (wanton vilification or attacks upon the religion, race), 295A (deliberate and malicious intention of outraging religious feelings), 116 (abetment of an offence), 34 (common intention) and 504 (intentional insult to provoke breach of the peace) at City police station.
