Sarkhej woman lodges dowry, Domestic Violent complaint

AHMEDABAD: A 31-year-old woman, a resident of Sarkhej, lodged a complaint under the domestic violence and the dowry acts against her husband and her in-laws after her in-laws allegedly sold her gold and silver ornaments without her knowledge.
The complainant was married in 2008 and was staying with her husband and in-laws. She stated in her complaint that after seven years of marriage, she was informed that her brother-in-law has either sold all her gold and silver ornaments or had mortgaged them without her knowledge.
She stated that whenever she demanded her ornaments she had a heated argument with her in-laws and her husband. She said that she was abused on several occasions. She left her home two years ago and went to a women shelter home in Surat. Later, she started living with her parent in Nadiad.
A compromise was later worked out and she returned to her in-laws' house. The complainant then started working in a hospital, but she was forced to leave the job. After frequent quarrels with her husband and in-laws, she has been living separately in another house for the past 15 days. According to the complainant when her in-laws kept on torturing her, she lodged the complaint with Sarkhej police.
