VASCO: PWD minister Nilesh Cabral said that he will put in place a mechanism to streamline the PWD’s road works and to see that public money is not wasted by digging roads.
Potholes are surfacing on recently tarred roads in various parts of the state, including Vasco town. Commuters are facing inconvenience due to the condition of the roads.
I had taken note of the condition of the roads even before labour minister and Panaji MLA Atanasio Monserrate raised the issue, Cabral said.
The PWD minister said that contractors cannot be solely blamed for the condition of the roads as in some cases only one tar carpet was laid and the second layer which was supposed to be laid could not be laid due to the heavy rainfall. The road contractors will be asked to redo the road work, he said.
Cabral said that there are several aspects to the poor conditions of a road. “Sometimes it is a poor quality of work, at times there are technical issues and sometimes there are pipelines and cables which are passing under the road so to resolve any problem the road has to be dug up. I will make sure that such roads are restored,” he said.
