Man gets six years for sexually assaulting 9-yr-old neighbour

Thane: The Thane sessions court on Thursday, convicted a 30-year-old man from Bhiwandi and sentenced him to six years rigorous imprisonment for sexually assaulting a 9 -year-old girl in 2015. The prosecution told the court that the accused, Ganesh alias Ganya Sadavarte, stayed in the same locality. On May 31, around 2pm, Sadavarte took the child to an isolated place and sexually abused her. He warned her not to inform anyone.
Two days later, the girl’s mother, while washing her clothes, noticed bloodstains on her innerwear. The girl told the mother about the sexual assault after which she was sent to a hospital and an offence registered.
Prosecutor Rekha Hiwarale said the judge relied on the deposition of prosecution witnesses and held that the prosecution proved the charges beyond reasonable doubt and convicted the accused. —Nishikant Karlikar
