YAMUNANAGAR:
Haryana director general of prisons (DGP) Mohammad Akil visited the district jail at Jagadhri in Yamunanagar on Saturday.
During his visit DGP prisons inspected and finalised the land for opening a petrol pump in Yamunanagar jail, as has been done in Kurukshetra district jail premises.
Akil said they are working on a plan to establish a showroom related to the jail at Yamunanagar and a scheme is being explored to sell the products made by the prisoners inside the jails there.
"The prisoners will themselves sell products like furniture and others made by them at this showroom and they will also operate a petrol pump here. We have a plan to set up a Kurukshetra jail like petrol pump in Yamunanagar too. The motive is to socialise the prisoners with mainstream society and reform them", said Akil, after his visit to Yamunanagar jail, while talking to the media.
Akil said they have finalised the land for setting up a petrol pump at Yamunanagar jail and after coordinating with the oil company, further process will be initiated.
He said those prisoners who have a good conduct record inside the jails will be given the opportunity to work at these petrol pumps and markets inside jail premises under the open and semi-open jail initiative of Haryana government.
To a query about the problem of mobile phones being smuggled inside the jails, Akil said, "Very few incidents of mobiles being recovered are coming to fore but we cannot deny as these take place with involvement and mistake of jail officials. Instructions are given to SPs to secretly monitor these incidents and take action against erring officials and prisoners."
About installing jammers inside jail premises, Akil said, "In NCR region, jails of Sonepat and Jhajjar, 3G jammers were installed and now these have been upgraded to 4G jammers. In high security jails of Rohtak and Gurugram, the plan is to install 4G jammers but we are hearing that 5G (network) would also be launched soon, so we are planning that once 5G comes, to install 5G jammers. These are expensive equipment."
Akil said Haryana prisons department has also started the process of implementing a "harmonious call blocking system", which limits the possibility of calls, at important jails of the state including in NCR region and the central jails.
