Malda: While carrying 71 students, a school bus fell into a ditch following which at least 30 students sustained serious injuries. The incident happened near Lakhipur area of English Bazar in the afternoon where the bus of Kendriya Vidyalaya slipped into the ditch.
According to Superintendent of Police Pradeep Kumar Yadav, two students have sustained serious head injuries and also that all the injured students are admitted in Malda Medical College.
“We are yet to ascertain the cause of the accident and will also take action if anyone is found guilty. The health of the bus will also be examined,” said a police official.
According to the school officials, the school doesn’t own any bus for students but have outsourced and also that even the school authorities will ‘look’ into the matter.
Several eyewitnesses who were seen rescuing the students from the bus said that the helper of the bus was driving instead of the driver.
“The bus was not coming straight for long and suddenly it fell into the ditch. All of us rushed into the spot as it was a school bus carrying several children. We don’t know whether there was any technical glitch. At least 30 students are seriously injured and are taken to hospital for treatment,” said an eyewitness.
