Mumbai: Two held for committing theft of ornaments at Dahisar temple

The police have also recovered the entire stolen property from the suspects

Dahisar police have solved the case of theft committed at a temple and have arrested two persons for their alleged involvement in the said case. The police have also recovered the entire stolen property from the suspects.

According to the police, a complaint was filed by one Gautam Ghosh (56), a resident of Anand Nagar in Dahisar (E), stating that between the intervening night of June 29 and June 30, a theft was committed at Kali Mata temple at New Link Road, Parag Nagar.

In his complaint, Ghosh had told the police that ornaments and a mobile phone, totally worth Rs 1.97 lakh had got stolen from the temple. The police then registered a case on charges of lurking house-trespass or house-breaking by night and theft and began their probe.

A team was then formed under the supervision of deputy commissioner of police Somnath Gharge and after going through footages of at least 10 CCTV cameras and information provided by the informant, the police managed to apprehend one suspect identified as Ajay Chalke alias Chika near Hanuman Temple at Anand Nagar, police said.

Chalke then revealed involvement of another associate and Faizan Shaikh (19) and two minor aides in the said theft. The police then arrested Shaikh as well and have recovered entire stolen property from them. The police have also seized a stolen motorcycle from Shaikh, who is also involved in another theft case. Chalke and Shaikh are residents of Sambhaji Nagar in Dahisar, police said.
