Delhi Police on Saturday produced Alt News co-founder Mohammed Zubair before a court here in a case related to an "objectionable tweet" he had posted in 2018 against a Hindu deity and sought his 14-day judicial custody.
Zubair was produced before the court on expiry of his five-day custodial interrogation.
The police told Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Snigdha Sarvaria that he was not required anymore for custodial interrogation.
After the police application, Zubair moved a bail plea before the court.
New charges
In addition, the Delhi Police has added fresh charges against Mohammed Zubair, the co-founder of fact-checking site Alt News who was arrested in a case related to an alleged objectionable tweet in 2018.
The news charges have been added along with Section 35 of the FCRA or Foreign Contribution (Regulation) Act.
"Criminal conspiracy and destruction of evidence charges added to the FIR along with Section 35 of the FCRA," the Delhi Police told the Patiala House court.
With criminal conspiracy added to the FIR, the Enforcement Directorate can step in for money laundering probe.
