In a first in Test cricket, the fifth five-day game between India and England to be played on Friday, June 1 at Birmingham will see a launch of new innovation.
Broadcaster Sky Sports will add a camera on the helmet of England’s Ollie Pope while fielding at short leg. This will be implemented after approval from both the ICC and ECB.
Sky hopes it will give viewers a unique view of the action from the middle.
However, the camera will not pick up the sound so there are no concerns regarding what players say, although there is already a stump mic that is faded up and down at different moments.
A similar innovation was experimented by Sky during the first edition of The Hundred last year, when Trent Rockets’ Tom Moores wore a camera while keeping the wicket. It resulted in some brilliant shots as he took a top-edged catch.
