Karnataka: Three die after truck, diesel tanker collide

DHARWAD: A head-on collision between a truck and a diesel tanker at the Narendra-Gabbur National Highway bypass, near Yerikoppa, in the evening on Wednesday claimed the lives of three individuals. Veeresh,42, a resident of Mohemmed Nagar in Koppal, Parashuram, 28, from Kudlagi taluk in Vijayanagara district, and Anand, a resident of Hosagabbur in Hubballi died in the accident. While Veeresh and Parashuram were travelling on the diesel tanker, Anand was in the truck, of which he was the cleaner.
Dharwad district superintendent of police Lokesh Jagalasar said, “The tanker, which had left Belagavi, was bound for Hospet, while the coal-laden truck was en route to the Belur Industrial Area. The two vehicles, travelling in opposite directions, collided near a dhaba. The diesel tanker caught fire, and the two occupants were unable to step out of the vehicle, and were charred to death. Anand, who was stuck inside the truck, too died instantly.”
Dharwad rural police rushed to the spot on being intimated of the accident, and removed the bodies from the site. The bodies were subsequently sent to the Dharwad District Civil Hospital for postmortem.
