Maharashtra government news LIVE: After a day of surprises, the Eknath Shinde government will today get down to the business of picking its team. Shinde was yesterday evening sworn in as the 20th chief minister of Maharashtra, while BJP stalwart Devendra Fadnavis took oath as the deputy chief minister. The swearing-in happened less than 24 hours after the collapse of the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) government. Fadnavis announced in the evening that Shinde, who led the rebellion in the Shiv Sena, will be the new chief minister, while he himself will be out of the new government. He then changed his stand to become the deputy CM following prodding from his party's central leadership.

Sanjay Raut to appear before ED today
Shiv Sena leader Sanjay Raut will appear before the Enforcement Directorate (ED) office today in connection with a money laundering case. This is after the investigating agency declined his request to provide some more time . The ED had sent him a second summons to appear before July 1, after he failed to appear in his first summon on Monday. Raut is being investigated in connection with the re-development of Mumbai's Patra Chawl. His lawyer had sought 13-14 days time to present the documents in front of the probe agency. However, the request was declined by the agency.
Will remain in Shiv Sena: Kesarkar
Rebel Shiv Sena MLA Deepak Kesarkar said yesterday that that the group following Eknath Shinde will remain as Shiv Sena. And that they will not merge with any party. "We will not merge with any party. We will work as Shiv Sena. We will work in the interest and development of Maharashtra and contribute towards it. We will not backstab the party," Kesarkar said.
I don't think Devendra Fadnavis has accepted the number 2 position of Deputy CM happily. It can be seen on his face. But he had lived in Nagpur, it is his ethos as an (RSS) swayamsevak, so he accepted the position.
- Sharad Pawar, NCP chief
My colleagues and entire Maharashtra is happy that Balasaheb Thackeray's Shiv Sainik has become the chief minister of the state.
- Eknath Shinde, Maharashtra Chief Minister
Why such a move by BJP?
The middle game and end game of this political gambit would become more clear only in the months to come, but the immediate fallout is certain: It gives Shinde a bigger stature in the fight for control in the Shiv Sena.
The move surprised everyone who thought the natural outcome of rebellion in the Shiv Sena would be that that Devendra Fadnavis would become chief minister.
Yesterday evening, Eknath Shinde was sworn in as chief minister and Devendra Fadnavis has his deuty.
How will the new Maharashtra government look like? We will get to know at least some of the details today,
