Indore: Waterproof domes formed, EVMs to wrapped in polythene in view of rain

Indore (Madhya Pradesh): In view of the rainy season and water logging in the Nehru Stadium ground, from where the polling material will be distributed and received, waterproof domes are being built and the EVMs will be wrapped in polythene before giving it to the polling parties.

The preparation for the elections to municipal corporation and municipal councils of the district are about to be completed. The distribution of polling materials to polling parties will start from the early morning of July 5 for the voting to be held on July 6. In view of the rainy season, extra precautions are being taken.

Six giant waterproof domes have been put up in the Nehru Stadium ground with plywood flooring to keep slush and mud at bay.

Meanwhile, the work of commissioning EVMs is going on under tight security at the Nehru Stadium, where around two hundred and fifty workers are involved.

Earlier, collector Singh reached Nehru Stadium and inspected the preparations for the commissioning work of EVM machines and distribution of voting material. Additional collector Abhay Bedekar, additional collector Ajay Dev Sharma, assistant district election officer Munish Sikarwar and other officers were present on the occasion.

Collector Singh said that the commissioning of EVMs is very important work for the upcoming urban body elections. The arrangement for distribution of voting material at Nehru Stadium has been made constituency-wise. Each assembly has been assigned a colour code. Cards will be given to those who bring EVMs , which would be matched to this colour code. He said that voting material of not more than 18 polling stations will be given from one counter, so that they are not crowded. He said that chairs would be placed in front of every counter for the polling parties to sit. In view of the rain, polythene will also be given to the polling parties to protect the EVM machine from water.
