Dumka: CM Hemant Soren lauded the tribal community’s contribution to India’s freedom struggle on the occasion of Hul Diwas on Thursday.
The CM observed Hul Diwas, which marks the 167th anniversary of Santhal rebellion led by tribal brothers Sidho, Kanho, Chand and Bhairav, by garlanding the statues of Sidho and Kanho in Panchkathiya near Bhognadih. The two brothers were hanged by the British there. The CM also inaugurated a welcome gate named after Sidho and Kanho at the Sidho-Kanho park here.
Addressing a gathering at Bhognadih, Soren said, “The entire family of Sidho, Kanho, Chand, Bhairav and their sisters Phulo and Jhano mobilised the tribal community to fight against the British and attained martyrdom.” Later in the day, Soren inaugurated a fossil park at Mandro block in Sahibganj. tnn
