PATNA: Southwest monsoon continued to remain active across the state on the second consecutive day on Thursday, leading to rainfall in all the districts. As per a bulletin issued by Patna Meteorological Centre on Thursday, an average 172.3mm rainfall was recorded in the state in the last 24 hours, though the intensity of showers reduced during the day.
The places which received significant amount of rainfall till 8.30am on Thursday were Sahebpur Kamal in Begusarai (141.2mm), Dharhara in Munger (140.8mm) and Patna (131.87mm). However, the rainfall activity reduced during the day and Patna recorded only 1.2mm rainfall till 5.30pm.
The state is expected to see more rain over the next two days as India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow alert for heavy rainfall along with lightning at isolated places in Bihar on Friday and Saturday. The rainfall is likely to be comparatively higher in north Bihar.
Yellow alert has been issued for heavy rainfall at isolated places in West Champaran, East Champaran, Sitamarhi, Sheohar, Madhubani, Supaul, Araria and Kishanganj on Friday and Saturday.
The ongoing spell of showers has been attributed to an east-west trough line running from Punjab to northeast Bay of Bengal.
