Mumbai: Over 1000 kg of drugs worth Rs 58.84 cr seized, 4968 arrested in narcotics cases this year

Mumbai police has seized a whopping Rs 58.84 crore worth contraband in the city from January till May this year and have arrested 4968 persons for their alleged involvement in drug-related offences. During the same period last year, the city police had seized drugs worth Rs 42.94 crore. The statistics further revealed that the most valued seized drugs are MD worth Rs 18 crore and Heroin worth Rs 11.94 crore.

According to the statistics provided by the Mumbai Police, this year from January till May, total 4771 drug-related cases had been registered and 4968 persons had been arrested in these cases. Over 1016 kilograms of contraband had been seized by the police. The statistics revealed that this year MD worth Rs 18 crore were seized, 68 MD related cases were registered and 85 persons were arrested in these cases.

The statistics further revealed that Rs 11.94 crore worth Heroin were seized this year, 19 Heroin-related cases were registered and 22 persons were arrested in these cases. The police had seized Charas worth Rs 5.45 crore, 15 Charas-related cases were registered and 23 persons were arrested in these cases. Statistics revealed that Cocaine worth Rs 2.92 crore were seized, 10 Cocaine-related cases were registered and 13 persons were arrested in these cases.

As per the police statistics, Ganja worth Rs 1.69 crore has been seized, 276 Ganja related cases were registered and 308 persons were arrested in these cases. As far as consumption of contraband is concerned, this year 4351 cases were registered and 4463 persons have been arrested.

"Local police, crime branch as well as Anti-Narcotics Cell (ANC) of Mumbai Police work continuously to curb the menace of drug trafficking in the city. In ANC, our main focus is on the suppliers as well as syndicates involved in drug trafficking. We train our men in upcoming trends and use technology to monitor drug-related activities on the internet. We also have a strong informant network who provide us concrete information with regards to drug trafficking," deputy commissioner of police, ANC, Datta Nalawade told FPJ.

Charas - Cases (15), Persons Arrested (23), Seized (18.14 kg)

Ganja - Cases (276), Persons Arrested (308), Seized (668 kg)

Cocaine - Cases (10), Persons Arrested (13), Seized (978 gm)

MD - Cases (68), Persons Arrested (85), Seized (11.26 kg)
