Nearly 460 homebuyers who invested in project 'Meadows' saleable component of the Patra Chawl redevelopment project have been left at God's mercy. Even after 14 years, the investors are not aware when their project work will begin as the builder Guruashish Construction Private Limited (GCPL) turned insolvent and the Maharashtra Housing and Area Development Authority (MHADA) co-promoter has initiated no action so far, claimed the homebuyers.

The project, which was launched a decade ago and homebuyers were promised possession by 2017, is just at the stage of plinth and a twostorey level of different wings in the project.

Thehomebuyers of Meadows welfare association told the FPJ that they have filed a revised petition in the Bombay High Court (HC) with prayers in March this year saying that MHADA is the copromoter and is signing consent terms with three other developers who are part of the saleable component of Patra Chawl.

However, no action with regard to the Meadows project has been initiated, they said. “We homebuyers are in the complete dark on how the project will take off. We are ready to pay the remaining consideration amount to MHADA so that they can carry out the project by appointing some developers. However, nothing has been done so far,” the buyers voiced and added that they are now waiting for a hearing on the case in the HC.

One of the homebuyers who did not wish to be named said that his family had put all their money into the project. However, they have no clue how they will get back their homes. “This particular project was launched with much fanfare. On booking, lucky winners were lured with offers of getting a brand new car. But the apathy is such that the structures are incomplete and abandoned by the builder,” the buyer said.

The Meadows project, part of the Patra Chawl redevelopment land parcel, was proposed with different wings – from A up to G – with over 600 plus units. These were mainly two and three bedroom kitchen flats only.

The controversial Patra Chawl redevelopment was initiated by MHADA in 2008.
