Thane: 52-year-old man dead, wife injured in building crash

KALYAN: A 52-year-old man died while his wife suffered multiple injuries after a two-storey building collapsed in Kalyan around 6:30am on Wednesday.
The deceased has been identified as Suryabhan Kakad. His wife Usha Kakad is currently undergoing treatment. The deceased is also survived by a son and his family who were in their another flat when the incident took place.
Both the victims were rushed to nearby civic-run Rukminibai hospital by the fire brigade where Suryabhan succumbed during treatment whereas his wife was shifted to a private hospital for further treatment.
As per the police, the building comprising three flats was old, and the Kakads were the only ones living there. A KDMC official said that it was constructed in 1984, had a load bearing structure, and was not on dangerous buildings' list.
