Television actress Charu Asopa and Sushmita Sen's actor-brother Rajeev Sen are reportedly headed toward divorce. For the last few months, there have been reports of trouble in their marriage, however, the couple always remained tight-lipped about it.
Now, in an interview with ETimes, Rajeev and Charu spoke for the first time about problems in their marriage.
Charu told the news publication that she sent a notice to Rajeev on June 7 seeking to part ways amicably, but he replied with another notice levelling accusations against her. She added that she didn’t want to talk about the problems in their marriage, but she has been forced to talk about it now because Rajeev is spreading lies about her, which is damaging her reputation.
Charu also clarified that their constant fights and reconciliation weren’t a publicity gimmick and they had problems for the past three years since the time they tied the knot.
The actress also stated that Rajeev has trust issues and 'she can’t take it anymore'. Charu said she wants to part ways because she doesn't want their daughter to grow up in a 'toxic and abusive environment'.
According to Charu, she tried her best to make her marriage work but has now decided to move on. She said she also stopped working because Rajeev wasn’t too keen on it. She also added that 'there is nothing left in their marriage' and that it has affected her badly and taken a toll on her health.
On the other hand, Rajeev told the news publication that no one barring those from Charu's hometown, Bikaner (Rajasthan), knew about her first marriage and that it was a secret kept hidden from them. Rajeev said he had no clue about it for three years and that he would have accepted it with respect if she would have told him about it before getting married.
Charu and Rajeev fought, separated briefly and got back together eventually. This had almost become a pattern and the couple was constantly in the news for the same.
After four months of dating, Rajeev and Charu got hitched on June 9, 2019, in a court marriage ceremony, which the couple followed with Rajasthani and Bengali traditions in Goa.
