SURAT: At least six major rath yatras of Lord Jagannath will be held in the city on July 1, two of which will be organised by
ISKCON. Police have planned elaborate bandobast to ensure peaceful processions.
The rath yatra by ISKCON will be taken out on its traditional route from Railway Station to Jahangirpura temple. The other yatras will be held in Varachha. ISKCON temple had opened in Varachha eight years ago and for the first time, it was being organised in Varachha.
Other rath yatras will be organised in Katargam, Pandesara, Sachin and Udhna. Police organised a patrolling march on Wednesday on the route of these yatras.
“Elaborate security arrangements have been made to ensure peaceful passage of the procession. One company of state reserve police (SRP) has been called from outside and around 3,500 police personnel from the city will be on duty,” said a senior police officer.
On the longest rath yatra route — from Railway Station to Jahangirpura ISKCON temple — devotees will participate in large numbers along with tableaux on vehicles. Hundreds are expected to participate in the rath yatra that is led by the three chariots.
