Uttar Pradesh in March this year, Noida police have nabbed around 100 criminals in as many as 51 gunfights in Gautam Budh Nagar.
As many as 20 gunfights have taken place in the Noida zone, 18 in the central Noida zone and 13 in the Greater Noida zone since March, according to the data shared by the Gautam Budh Nagar police.
However, no criminal was killed in these encounters, TOI has learnt.
Joint commissioner of Noida police Love Kumar said they are following "a zero-tolerance policy" towards crime and criminals. "Teams have been working on cases. We are also cracking down on habitual offenders regularly and taking preventive actions to curb the crime rate in the Gautam Budh district."
Most of the encounters have taken place under Sector 58 police station jurisdiction (8), followed by Beta-2 police station (7) and Phase 2 police station (6).
Additional DCP (Noida) Ranvijay Singh said the Sector 58 police station jurisdiction is used by the criminals as a transit point towards Ghaziabad as well as Delhi.
"We have been keeping a close watch and carrying out regular patrolling especially in the border areas. The criminals try to flee by firing on cops but we do our best to nab them," Singh told TOI.
In the past two years, as many as 463 criminals have been nabbed across the district following 226 shootouts.
