Bhopal: A month after friend’s suicide, boy hangs self to death from a tree

16-year-old addicted to substance believed that his deceased friend was calling him

Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh): A 16-year-old boy, who was addicted to cheap substance, ended his life a month after his friend committed suicide, said Arera Hills police on Thursday.  The boy used to tell his parents that his deceased friend was calling him.

Police station in-charge RK Singh told Free Press that on Wednesday, the boy hanged himself to death from a tree in the area. The boy’s parents, who are labourers, rushed him to hospital, however, doctors declared him dead.

The father of the deceased told police, that a month ago boy’s friend had committed suicide. Since then the boy had been telling the family that his friend was calling him, he told police. The bereaved man said that his son and his deceased friend used to take sedatives. After his friends’ suicide, the boy had increased the intake and would remain intoxicated.

The police have registered a case and started the investigations.

 “Most of the youngsters in the slum have fallen into substance addiction which is affecting them mentally and physically. The parents do not know how to deal with the situation and handle their addicted children,” said a concerned police officer on condition of anonymity.
