Ahmedabad: Youth falls into cave-in at Fatehwadi, rescued

AHMEDABAD: A CCTV footage that emerged from Fatehwadi area in Ahmedabad on Wednesday afternoon depicted, how unexpected cave-ins are getting life threatening.
The incident took place outside Labek Park near Fatehwadi canal where a leaking 200mm wide drainage line underneath the road had led to the erosion of a large portion of the earth.
Within seconds a youth who had just taken out his scooter towards the main road began sinking into the cave-in. Fortunately, people noticed the incident and helped the youth. But soon the youth fell inside the cave-in which was approximately 15 feet deep along with the scooter. Residents from nearby areas rushed to his help, some brought ropes and pulled him out in time.
“The youth received minor injuries. But what we saw in the video footage was scary and could happen anywhere,” says Maktampura corporator Haji Mirza. Last year in October, a five-year-old girl had died after slipping into an open gutter just outside Royal Akbar Tower on Sarkhej-Juhapura Road.
