BHUBANESWAR: The state saw 161 new Covid cases on Wednesday — fifty more than the day before — from among the 13,317 samples tested, registering a test positivity rate of 1.2%.
Khurda (60) and the capital city (58) reported the lion's share of the infections, forcing the civic authorities to re-introduce Covid-19 enforcement measures. While the number of districts reporting new cases was just six on Tuesday, the figure has touched 15 now.
Along with the state, the capital’s daily testing capacity has been ramped up. While the city was testing 1,000 samples a day until Monday, the number has doubled. The Covid-19 tests here are being conducted at the Capital Hospital, the municipal hospital and community and primary health centres. “We will further increase the number of tests, considering the spread of the disease and the findings of the ongoing door-to-door surveillance to screen people,” said Antaryami Mishra, additional district urban public health officer.
