Patiala man booked for bigamy

Ludhiana: The police have booked a Patiala resident for bigamy and his parents for dowry harassment. The FIR has been lodged after nine-month-long inquiry.
The accused are husband Amandeep Chauhan, father-in-law Laxman Das and mother-in-law Harbans Kaur.
Complainant Aaina Bhat said she got married to Amandeep on December 6, 2019. Soon after the marriage, the accused started harassing her for dowry. As her family could not give them more dowry, Amandeep solemnized second marriage without divorcing her.
She lodged a police complaint on September 13, 2021, and an inquiry was marked. Sub-inspector Jasveer Singh said a case has been registered under sections 494 (marrying again during lifetime of husband or wife) and 498-A (dowry harassment) of the IPC.
