Mumbai: Front portion of a 100-yr-old building named as Bldg No-339/341, Badam Wadi at Kalbadevi Road collapsed on Thursday, June 30th at around 2 pm. It was a cess property comprising ground plus four-storied.
According to the Maharashtra Housing and Area Development Authority (MHADA), which is the custodian of cess buildings said that it had issued work order of repairs to the contractor in February this year. However, the building tenants and landlord were non-cooperative with the repair works. Following which the contractor could only do propping (support was given through rods and wooden sticks) but couldn't begin the actual repairing work.
The MHADA public relations office further said that the said building comprises total 16 tenements of which 12 are residential and 4 are commercial. As the front portion of the building collapsed, no casualties were reported.
Meanwhile, another ground plus five-storied vacate building at Sion on Thursday collapsed at 6 pm, according to the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) Disaster control room. No injury or casualty has been reported in both building collapse incidents as per BMC and MHADA.
