RAJKOT: A Junagadh-based doctor was duped by a Surat-based couple of Rs 32 lakh in the lure of getting admission in post-graduate course in a medical college.
The cyber crime police of Junagadh arrested Satish Kanani and wife Sonal, both residents of Mota Varaccha, on the complaint lodged by Dr Rohal Lakkad on February 19 this year.
Lakkad and his wife are both doctors and are natives of Nakra village in Manavadar taluka. At present, Dr Lakkad is settled in Gotri area of Vadodara.
According to the complaint, Dr. Lakkad had filled an online form with all his data to appear in the NEET PG exam. R V Vaja, police inspector of cyber crime said, “The cyber crooks hacked the doctor’s computer and extracted all the details which he filled online.”
Dr. Lakkad got a call from a man named Vishal Singh and promised to help me clear NEET. Singh then started demanding money for various reasons and made him pay a total of Rs 32 lakh in various bank accounts. Of this, he was refunded Rs six lakh. He was made to pay the money from March 2019 to February 2022. Vaja said that all the money went into the account of the Surat couple but those who had hacked Dr Lakkad’s computer and lured him over the phone are yet to be arrested.
Police sources said this group was booked in the past also in other cities for duping doctors with the same modus operandi.”
