Ludhiana: Ahead of the monsoon season, the MC is planning to launch a city sanitation plan from July 1, where several activities will take place for a week to maintain cleanliness. While the MC top brass is hopeful that the drive would be successful, how far it would be effective on ground would be apparent only after the activities kick off.
To deal with the rains, MC commissioner Shena Aggarwal had asked the officials to chalk out a plan to go ahead with a cleanliness drive in the city. In the first week of July the officials, will take up the cleaning of compost pits, community and public toilets and heaps of garbage at roadside to be lifted. In the second week, challaning of illegal slaughtering shops, cleaning of road gulleys and replacement of broken covers of road gulleys will be carried out.
In the third week, the drive will focus on removal of concrete base around trees, and plantation will also be done at various roads and chowks of the city.
“People will be made aware of source segregation and home composting. Other activities planned include awareness drive to curb garbage disposal in Buddha Nullah and surrounding areas, and shopkeepers will be convinced for keeping two dustbins,” said an official.
