Covid India Cases News Live: Daily Covid Tally News: India logged 17,073 new coronavirus infections, raising its tally to 4,34,07,046, while the active cases have increased to 94,420, the Union Health Ministry said on Monday. The death toll has climbed to 5,25,020 with 21 fresh fatalities, data updated at 8 am by the ministry stated. The active cases comprise 0.22 per cent of the total infections. The national COVID-19 recovery rate was 98.57 per cent, the ministry said. An increase of 1,844 cases has been recorded in the active COVID-19 case count in a span of 24 hours, the data stated.The daily positivity rate was recorded at 5.62 per cent while the weekly positivity rate was recorded at 3.39 per cent, it said.

AIADMK meeting of top office bearers violates party by-law: O Panneerselvam
- AIADMK coordinator O Panneerselvam has said that the meeting is a violation of the party by-law.Pannerselvam or OPS as he is known, added that meetings could be convened only with the approval of both coordinator and co-coordinator. This comes amid the battle for single leadership in the AIADMK between former Tamil Nadu chief minister and party co-coordinator Edappadi K Palaniswami and his former deputy CM and coordinator O Panneersevelam.
- In a statement, OPS, who is the treasurer of the party said that since as a coordinator of the AIADMK he had not given any approval to the meeting and in such a case if the meeting is convened, it will be in violation of the rule.

Thane reports 1,306 new COVID-19 cases; tally jumps by over 900 in one day
Maharashtra's Thane district has reported 1,306 new COVID-19 cases, taking its infection tally to 7,25,471, a health official said on Monday. These new cases were recorded on Sunday, a jump of over 900 cases in a single day. On Saturday, Thane had reported 383 new COVID-19 cases. The district currently has 5,425 active COVID-19 cases, the official said, adding that the recovery count has reached 7,06,708. The death toll in Thane remained unchanged at 11,902, he said.

Brent crude futures slipped $1.42, or 1.3%, to $111.70 a barrel by 0010 GMT after rebounding 2.8% on Friday. U.S. West Texas Intermediate crude was at $106.08 a barrel, down $1.54, or 1.4%, following a 3.2% gain in the previous session.
Ecuador warns protests could force halt to oil production
Ecuador's energy ministry warned Sunday that oil production had reached a "critical" level and could be halted entirely within 48 hours if protests and roadblocks continue in the crisis-wracked South American country. 21 dead in South African nightclub; cause not yet known
South African police were investigating the deaths of at least 21 people at a nightclub in the coastal town of East London early Sunday and authorities said most of the victims were minors as young as 13 years old.
