Satna (Madhya Pradesh)
Uttar Pradesh police have arrested a dreaded dacoit on Sunday who has been absconding for 24 years and was staying in an ashram at Chitrakoot in Satna district of MP disguised as a saint.
The 69-year-old dacoit Chheda Singh, a native of Uttar Pradesh, remained member of Lalaram gang in Chambal region at the age of 20. More than two dozen cases were registered against him in Madhya Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh which include murder, attempt to murder and kidnapping, robbery and so on.
The Chitrakoot police of Satna was not even aware of this matter. Recently, after dacoit’s health deteriorated, he had gone from Chitrakoot to his village Bhasaun, where the UP police came to know about him and the police of Auraiya district arrested him.
Chheda Singh was on the run since an encounter with the police in a kidnapping case in the year 1998. His relatives had divided his ancestral property by declaring him dead in the documents.
Despite this, the UP police continued to consider him absconding. In 2015, the Auraiya police had announced a reward of Rs 50,000 on his head.
