NDA's Presidential candidate Droupadi Murmu arrives at Parliament House (PTI)
BARIPADA: A truck carrying 38 poles and 900 metres of cables and conductors reached Dungrisahi on Saturday - a locality without electricity within NDA's President nominee Droupadi Murmu's native village Uparbeda in Odisha's Mayurbhanj district.
Work began to "electrify" the hamlet under Kusumi block following TOI's report on Friday highlighted the lack of electricity in Murmu's village. "The linemen were busy installing the poles and a transformer. I think we should get power supply within the next two days," said Dhanamani Baskey, a Dungrisahi panchayat samiti member.
Around 3,500 people live in Uparbeda - comprising two clusters, Badasahi and Dungrisahi, barely a kilometre apart. Badasahi has electricity, but Dungrisahi has no power supply. Villagers depend on kerosene lamps after dark, authorities said. tnn
