PUNE: The Chatushrungi police on Wednesday arrested autorickshaw driver Anil Prakash Sadashiv (32) on the charge of creating ruckus under the influence of alcohol and assaulting a sub-inspector, while punching two constables and tearing apart their uniforms, near Vitthal temple on Pashan-Sus Road around 1.30am the same day.
The police produced Sadashiv before a court on Wednesday, which ordered his custodial remand till June 24.
Sadashiv smashed the windshield of a car parked along the road after almost hitting it from the rear. He then picked up a quarrel with the two men inside the car. This drew the attention of constable Dattatray Balshiram Genje and his colleague, Govind Jarwal, who were on a night patrol in the area. They tried to calm Sadashiv down. He, however, punched the two constables and tore their uniforms.Sub-inspector Basavraj Mali and his team rushed to the spot in a police van after getting an alert from the constables. While Sadashiv was being moved into the van, he assaulted Mali, who received three stitches to his palm, the police said.
Senior inspector Rajkumar Waghchaure of the Chatushrungi police told TOI, "Aslam Ansari (22) and Ganesh Thorat (20) of Sus-Pashan Road were listening to music in the car parked along the road when Sadashiv reached the spot." Assistant inspector Santosh Koli said, "As the parked car was occupying a fair portion of the road's width, Sadashiv started honking from behind before getting down from the vehicle. He then started pelting stones on the car, damaging the rear windshield, leading to the attack on police."
