Synopsis

Draupadi Murmu reached New Delhi on Thursday where she met PM Modi, home minister Amit Shah, defence minister Rajnath Singh and BJP national president JP Nadda.

Opposition Presidential candidate Yashwant Sinha will file his nomination on June 27. Ruling NDA candidate Draupadi Murmu is all set to file her nomination today, in the presence of PM Modi and other senior BJP leaders.

Draupadi Murmu reached New Delhi on Thursday where she met PM Modi, home minister Amit Shah, defence minister Rajnath Singh and BJP national president JP Nadda.

With the nomination process set to begin, the NDA has an advantage over the UPA, not just in terms of numbers, but also in terms of the candidate, as the idea of the first Adivasi to ever be President of India will be a powerful inducement to get support from different fence sitting political parties like the Biju Janata Dal (BJD), the YSRCP, and others.

After three prominent political figures — Gopalkrishna Gandhi, Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) supremo Sharad Pawar, and former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Farooq Abdullah — declined the Opposition’s invitation to become the common Presidential candidate for the upcoming polls on July 18, former union minister Yashwant Sinha was named by the joint Opposition to stand for the Presidential elections.
