Gold, foreign cigarettes worth Rs 23 lakh recovered from 2 at Jaipur airport

JAIPUR: Customs officials at Jaipur International Airport seized 346 grams of gold worth Rs 18.05 lakh and over 47,000 packets of foreign cigarettes worth Rs 6.47 lakh from two passengers, said officials on Thursday. Officials said at 3:40am, a passenger who arrived from Muscat by Salam Air was found with an electric meat grinder in his bag, which seemed suspicious.
“On examination of his checked-in baggage in the x-ray machine, dark images of some objects inside an electric meat grinder was noticed. On inquiry, the passenger denied being in possession of or carrying any such items. Due to suspicion, his checked-in baggage was opened. On dismantling the meat grinder, we found gold in a cylindrical shape was concealed in the armature of the machine,” said customs officials.

Similarly, because of suspicion, customs officers opened two suitcases of a passenger who arrived by an Air Arabia flight. The baggage were cross marked as the image of goods contained inside was found to be suspicious. During examination,47,200 packets of foreign cigarettes valued at Rs 6,49,000 were recovered from them.
