“Ghanshyam’s daughter slit her father’s throat when he was beating Rishita. As Ghanshyam crumpled, Rishita hit him on the head with a pestle till he stopped writhing,” a police officer.
The officer said Ghanshyam married Rishita 18 years ago. “The couple had constant domestic fights. In 2020, Rishita moved to her parents’ place in Sector 16 in Gandhinagar with her daughter. A week ago, the couple settled their dispute and began living together at Kolavada village,” said sub-inspector M H Rana of Pethapur police.
Rana said Ghanshyam was a farmer and the couple usually fought over financial issues. “On Thursday afternoon, Ghanshyam returned home from somewhere. Rishita served him food. After a while, Ghanshyam picked a fight with Rishita over some old matter and began assaulting her,” said a police officer.
When he was beating Rishita, their daughter attacked him with the paper cutter.
Ghanshyam’s brother, Jagdish Patel, lodged a complaint of murder against Rishita and her daughter. He said his cousin, Vipul Patel, had called him and told him that Ghanshyam had been killed.
When he got to Ghanshyam’s house, Jagdish found him lying in pool of blood. He said Ghanshyam’s daughter’s T-shirt had blood stains.
He said when he asked her and her mother about Ghanshyam’s death, they did not give him a proper answer. He then called the police who detained Rishita and her daughter for murder.
