DALTONGANJ: Over a dozen BJP workers were detained for four hours on Thursday by Latehar police in Chandwa ahead of their scheduled protest outside DDC’s office seeking compensation to the kin of two minors who allegedly died after eating ‘spurious’ mixture and wafers earlier this month.
Notably, chief minister Hemant Soren too was in Latehar on Thursday for distribution of kisan credit cards. The detained workers were later released in the evening.
BJP’s spokesperson Pratul Shahdeo, who was leading the stir, said that they were detained at Chandwa Chowk on NH 75 and later put up at an inspection bungalow.
“Neither the state food testing lab nor Rims Ranchi has sent any report to the Latehar administration about it,” he claimed.
Officer in-charge of Chandwa police station, Madan Sharma, said he had orders from 'above' to detain BJP workers but didn’t elaborate.
On June 5 and 7, two girls aged five and 1.5 years died after having wafers and a mixture from a shop.
