Synopsis

Twitter, the micro-blogging platform, is testing the feature for users to create long-form written content in the form of ‘Notes.’

Agencies
The most popular micro-blogging platform Twitter is planning to introduce a feature that will allow Twitter users to write long posts. The announcement was made by Twitter on Wednesday, with a mission to give a new experience to the users. Twitter claims that the developers' team is working on creating an in-built feature called ‘Notes’. This upcoming feature will allow users to create long-form written content that could be attached to their tweets.

Twitter said that currently, a small team of writers is helping them to test run the feature. They plan to gradually increase the number of people to be able to access Notes, however, that would solely depend upon the results of the test trial. If successful, this will be another remarkable feature of Twitter after the decision to double the Tweets' word count from 140 to 280 characters. Users will now be able to share their in-depth thoughts. It will particularly be helpful for article writers and bloggers who love to write and share their thoughts. It will also solve the issue of getting confused in the long threads created on Twitter.

On the left panel, by clicking on the ‘Write’ tab, users will be able to write a Note and attach other users’ tweets and media (photos, GIFs, videos, etc.) as well. The published Note will appear as a ‘Note Card’ on Twitter accounts. Note Card will basically be a preview of the Note link. By clicking it, the readers will be redirected to the Note created. In the selected countries where the Notes feature is available, users will be able to view Note Cards in Twitter's timeline, however, this is limited to the following situations:

  • If users follow someone who is in the tweet test group for the Notes feature, or
  • If someone they are following quote tweets, retweets, or share the Notes’ link

Will everyone be able to use the Notes feature of Twitter?
No. The Notes feature is still in its test phase and is not available in all the countries. Currently, the test is being run for a few users in the United States, United Kingdom, Canada, and Ghana.

What is Revue? What role is it playing in this new feature?

Revue is a newsletter firm which was acquired by Twitter last year. Apart from introducing the Notes feature, Twitter is including Revue in the team of Twitter Write. Twitter Write is a tool used to create Notes.
