RAJKOT: In yet another incident, an artisan from West Bengal fled with gold worth Rs 20.88 lakh from a shop where he was working in Rajkot.
Shop owner Nazir Hussain Sheikh, who has a unit in Soni Bazar, lodged a complaint against artisan Mukbar Mandal after the latter could not be traced for four days.
On June 15, Sheikh, who is also a native of West Bengal, had received an order to make gold earrings and had given 390gm gold to Mandal to make 75 pieces.
When Sheikh enquired with Mandal about the work on June 17, Mandal said he was giving the finishing touches to the earrings and would complete the work soon.
However, he disappeared from the unit the same day evening. When Sheikh called him, he found that Mandal's mobile phone was switched off and Mandal was also not found at his house.
On learning that he had fled to West Bengal, Sheikh lodged a complaint with A-division police on Thursday. Three days ago, an artisan named Bijoy Maiti had fled with gold worth Rs 24 lakh from the unit of Alip Dei.
