Pune: Mangalsutra snatched in procession at Vishrantwadi

A 48-year-old woman from Wadgaonsheri has registered a complaint stating that an unidentified woman snatched her mangalsutra worth Rs 49,000 when she had gone to seek blessings of Sant Tukaram Maharaj during the palkhi procession at Vishrantwadi chowk on June 22.
PUNE: A 48-year-old woman from Wadgaonsheri has registered a complaint stating that an unidentified woman snatched her mangalsutra worth Rs 49,000 when she had gone to seek blessings of Sant Tukaram Maharaj during the palkhi procession at Vishrantwadi chowk on June 22.
This is the fourth incident of chain snatching reported in Vishrantwadi.
Senior inspector Dattatraya Bhapkar on Friday, "The woman homemaker had visited the Vishrantwadi chowk to seek darshan when the suspect came from behind, took advantage of the massive crowd, snatched her chain and took to heels.”
Bhapkar said, “The woman initially did not realise what happened. But she later found her mangalsutra stolen. She did not approach the police instantly because she had gone to meet her ailing father.”
The woman visited the police station on Thursday and registered an FIR relating to robbery under section 392 of the Indian Penal Code.
On the progress in investigations, he said, “We are analysing CCTV cameras CCTV cameras to establish the identity of the woman suspect believed to be in the age group of 22 years. We hope to detect the chain snatching case.”
