GUWAHATI: Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma said on Thursday the IAF will be transporting drinking water bottles from Guwahati to Silchar town, which is reeling under floods, even as the state reported seven more flood deaths, pushing up the toll to 107, reports Prabin Kalita.
Sarma said, "Every day, one lakh bottles of drinking water will be carried by special IAF craft to Silchar." Thousands of people of Silchar town are stranded and have been without water and electricity for the last few days.
Even though the rainfall has decreased considerably, the situation has not changed much. As per the Assam State Disaster Management Authority, over 45 lakh people continue to remain affected, of which nearly three lakh are in relief camps. As of Thursday, 30 districts were affected.
