Ludhiana: Safai karamcharis ask civic body to make their jobs permanent

LUDHIANA: Members of safai karamchari sangharsh committee started protested in Zone D office of municipal corporation (MC) in Sarabha Nagar on Thursday by raising slogans against the MC authorities for ignoring the grievances of employees, especially the class four.
They said they were called for a meeting bwith MC commissioner by the civic body, but when they reached the venue she was not available.
The protesers claimed if the MC commissioner had no time to listen to the grievances of employees, then she should not have given time to meet them.
However, sources said the MC ccommissioner had gone to attend a meeting in Chandigarh, which came up unexpectedly.
The employees said they were demanding for a long time now to make the sweepers and sewer cleaners permanent and the order was also passed in that regard. Yet those who are working on contract basis, are not regularised but till date, They cited the example of the municipal corporation of Amritsar where already letters are issued to the employees, making them permanent.
To push this point, MC safai karamcharis announced that they would stage protest on Thursday outside zone A office.
Last week also, a protest was staged and after that salary was given to the employees, but other demands are still pending, said sources.
Meanwhile, the members of Municipal Employees Sangharsh Committee had also a meeting with the commissioner on Wednesday and it was also postponed.
