LUCKNOW: The man accused of threatening to trigger blasts at RSS offices in Lucknow, Unnao and four places in Karnataka is a member of the Popular Front of India, said the anti-terrorist squad (ATS) of UP Police on Thursday. The accused, Raj Mohammed (20), was arrested from Pudukkottai district in Tamil Nadu on June 7.
ATS has found that Mohammed was in touch with people in Lebanon, Syria and Jordan. The social media groups of which Mohammed is a member will be scrutinised.
ATS officials said Mohammed was a member of PFI from 2018 to 2021.
“Mohammed is a member of WhatsApp groups the admins of which are based in Lebanon, Syria and Jordan,” said an official. ATS is also probing the bank accounts of Mohammed and his associates. Sources said that they have learnt from local police that Mohammed was unemployed and had tried to commit suicide a couple of times but was saved by the timely action of local police.
