MUMBAI: AICC observer and former Madhya Pradesh chief minister
Kamal Nath was despatched to Mumbai by the Congress leadership on Wednesday to assess the political turmoil in the state.
Maharashtra along with Rajasthan and Chhattisgarh are the three big states where Congress continues to be in power.
Kamal Nath held a meeting with NCP chief Sharad Pawar, Balasaheb Thorat and Nana Patole of Congress and chief minister Uddhav Thackeray during his day-long visit after the revolt by Shiv Sena leader Eknath Shinde plunged the government into a crisis.
Differences which came to the fore recently during the Rajya Sabha and MLC polls are a distant memory now. The allies are closing ranks in the hope that they will be able to jointly stave off a challenge. “Congress and NCP are with Shiv Sena…BJP is playing mischief with the Constitution and misusing central agencies to destabilize the Maha Vikas Aghadi government. I have first-hand experience of the tactics adopted by BJP in Madhya Pradesh,” said Kamal Nath.
Kamal Nath said he was sure the rebels will not taint the reputation of the state of Shivaji Maharaj. “BJP is playing politics of temptation, in days to come it will be in danger. I had a meeting with Sharad Pawar and spoke to the CM on phone,” he said.
Kamal Nath said the rebellion in Sena has had no impact on the Congress.
“I addressed the meeting of the Congress legislature party, all the 44 Congress legislators were present,” he said. Thorat and Patole too said that reports that a section of MLAs are in the process of quitting the Congress were baseless.
